June is the Month for celebrating father’s and all they have taught us. This month’s Bone Collector, William Foster, tells bonecollector.com that he father was the biggest influence when it comes to hunting. He began hunting with his father when he was just a young boy and has continued to hunt with him throughout his hunting career. He remembers his first experience with his father, “It was very exciting. I went with my dad and a few of his hunting buddies pheasant hunting. I don’t remember who shot the first pheasant but I can remember that I got to carry it out of the field.”
Along with teaching William how to hunt, his father also taught the importance of safety. “I grew up watching my dad and his buddies hunt. They were some of the first Hunter Safety Instructors in the state of Kansas. My dad has bow hunted since the first year that Kansas has had a season.”
Learning all he could from his father, William now passes those lessons on to his son Brennan. “My most memorable hunting experience was when my son Brennan shot his first deer. It was out of the same stand that I had taken a big buck out of the year before. We had to watch the deer come out of the neighboring property. After he crossed the fence my son could not get a clear shot of him for about 5 min-what seemed like 5 hours. When he finally had the shot, he made a perfect shot. When he asked me if he got him I said ‘YES!’ I was so excited that I was shaking. When he asked me how big he was I said he was a big 9 pointer. He was disappointed, he had been hoping for a 10 pointer. When we walked up on him he had a little cheater off of the brow tine. He was so excited that he got his ten pointer.”
William also wanted to thank his family for supporting him, saying that he wouldn’t be the Bone Collector he is today with out them. “I would like to thank my Dad (Bob), wife (Kim), brother (Les), daughter (Brooklyn), and my son (Brennan), for putting up with me and allowing me to pursue my passion of hunting.”
Bonecollector.com wants to wish a Happy Father’s Day to William, his Father, Bob, and all Bone Collector Fathers passing along the brotherhood.
