Bone Collector | Wild Turkey Recipes
Wild turkey recipe suggestions are not a rarity by any means. Whether it’s grandma’s recipe, your father’s, or if it is coming from one of your hunting buddies, you are either accustomed to receiving recipes or you have settled on a favorite. However, it is not often you get a recipe suggestion from professional turkey hunters, specifically two guys with enough birds in their freezer to cover their Thanksgiving dinners for life! This year try one of these two wild turkey recipes by Bone Collector’s Michael Waddell and T-bone Turner!
Wild Turkey Recipes
Waddy’s Turkey Nuggets Recipe
Michael Waddell is perhaps the most dangerous man a turkey could run across in the woods. This is a tried-and-true turkey recipe the Waddells enjoy every year.
- Wild turkey
- Flour Batter (optional 2 cups milk, 2 eggs, 2 cups flour)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Add your favorite dry seasoning (optional)
(*multiply by each bird if cooking more than one)
Step 1: Cut up the turkey into small nuggets and soak overnight in buttermilk in the refrigerator.
Step 2: In another bowl add the flour, and your favorite seasoning, if you’d like.
Step 3: Take the nuggets out of the buttermilk and cover them with the flour mixture. (optional* dipping in milk/egg batter before then cover with flour).
Step 4: Grab your favorite fryer and deep fry on 350 until golden brown. Let the excess oil and juices drain.
Step 5: After frying, mix with buffalo sauce (or something similar), or add more seasoning of your choice.
Step 6: Serve to friends, family, or other hunters!
Note: Bone Collector’s Nick Mundt likes his turkey nuggets plain with just garlic salt, onion powder, Cajun seasoning, and a touch of black pepper. He cooks the nuggets the same way with just another dash of garlic salt after frying!
T-Bone’s CanCooker Turkey Recipe
If you are a “put it in a pot” type of guy, then T-bone’s CanCooker turkey recipe may be more your speed. If you are looking for something a bit simpler, check out how T-Bone likes his wild turkey cooked!
- 12 oz of Mountain Dew
- 12 oz can frozen orange juice concentrate – keep frozen
- 3 tsp finely chopped garlic
- 8 pieces (2 1/2 to 3 lbs) boneless and skinless turkey
- 2 tsp poultry seasoning
- Salt, to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley and orange slices
Step 1: Mix Mtn Dew, frozen orange juice concentrate, and garlic in the CanCooker.
Step 2: Add turkey breasts in a single layer. Sprinkle chicken with poultry seasoning and salt.
Step 3: Cover and cook on low heat for 30 minutes, or until juice of chicken is clear when thickest part is cut.
Step 4: Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes.
Step 5: Serve with chopped fresh parsley and orange slices!
Both Michael and T-bone happen to kill a LOT of birds each and every year. While many hunters often lay their hands on just one, perhaps two birds in their home state every year, the Bone Collector crew stacks birds in many states. This means that these two are absolutely no stranger to cooking wild turkey. If you are looking to try something different this year, go ahead and try one of these wild turkey recipes!
